Giving Thanks!!

It is the fourth Thursday of November and as usual R. family are throwing a family-like party. Usual for them, but different for me!!

It was the first Thanksgiving holiday I witnessed and was really fascinated! So much that I skipped lectures tonight and went straight from work to their place to celebrate!

The spirit of Thanksgiving was everywhere! In small pictures stuck on windows, cute signs on mirrors or on cupboards, on small fake pumpkins, walnuts or chestnuts, on the table cloth that had Thanksgiving spirit with real yellowish - brownish - reddish autumn leaves spread over the table!! Everything!! Things that always fascinate me a lot! In fact, I do not find cute only this particular decoration but all and different small and tiny little things theme bound his mom puts on everywhere to make us as welcomed guests mingling us in the spirit of a holiday immediately!

The food was wonderful!! I have no words to explain it! J, A's mom, had really put a heart and I apparently effort into it! She prepared a lot of stuff (after all there were 12 of us there), food usually served on Thanksgiving - stuff (to put it in a turkey, but she prepared it out), turkey meat, cut potatoes into small pieces baked with yellow cheese on, a big intact cauliflower covered with mustard and a bit mayonnaise, cranberries sauce (homemade!), sweet potatoes meal, green peas with bacon, sauce baked with some yellow cheese all over, a separate dish of sweet corn and a salad of cabbage with mayonnaise!

On the dessert horizon, there were pies - me - oh - my! what pies! - to start with pumpkin pie, we can not do without it ;-)- exactly like my blinkie!, cheesecake, brownies (A. prepared), pecan pie, muffins, rolls and honey butter to spread over with (oil that A. had prepared too - another six plus points for the skillful boy)

Before the food was served though his father asked each and everyone of us to say what they were thankful for during the past year! One was grateful for having grandchildren, another one for being here in BG, still another for a successful year he had, A. was thankful for the new puppy his family adopted 6 moths ago, and I, I was grateful simply for being alive for a year now! It is that simple and that meaningful for me! I was given a second chance, I have always been thankful for this !!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I will have a next round tomorrow's evening again when one of the guests tonight is throwing another post-Thanksgiving party! ;-)

19 Years Living in Absurdity

It is November 10th, 2009.

Nineteen years of new history, (most of) my conscious life. For those who do not know, on Novembre 10th 1989 there was a huge revolution - people were fed up with the 33 years of dictatorial regime during which time Bulgaria was ruled by one person. On Nov 10th under the great pressure of the people he resigned and that put the transmission from socialism to market economy, from socialism to democracy, liberty and freedom to be able to voice your opinion.

Although I was born in communism and spent most of my childhood during that time, I remember it vaguely. Have several particular memories but more are from the things I have been told by my parents, school or society as general.

The change that everyone expected is still looming, I believe.

So, in a nutshell, I have been living all my conscious life in this turbulent NEW time, so I really kinda get used to it! It is hard to believe it, but once you are in it, once you experience it and you have no other choice, you somehow get used all that chaos and absurd! If you do not believe my words, take a glance at what the European Union (EU) treats us like. It is self-explanatory itself!

I honestly can call my times absurd times, and it is not only me, I assume.
